SILVER GOALS is a European Erasmus+ project designed to address two growing social challenges: the increasing isolation of older adults and the lack of human resources in grassroots football clubs. The project creates a sustainable and inclusive model that connects seniors with football clubs through structured volunteering, benefiting individuals, sports organizations, and local communities alike.
Across Europe, many older adults experience loneliness, reduced social participation, and a loss of purpose after retirement. At the same time, grassroots football clubs play a key role in community life but often struggle with limited volunteers, administrative support, and long-term sustainability. SILVER GOALS responds to these shared needs by transforming football clubs into spaces for intergenerational collaboration and active citizenship.
At the core of the project is a digital matchmaking platform that allows football clubs to post volunteer opportunities and older adults to register their skills, interests, and availability. This tool removes practical barriers to participation and makes volunteering accessible, flexible, and scalable.
